A Greenhouse Out of CD Cases

Here is another craft of recycling household waste in a new ways, by Mega Crafty's unique way of using CD cases to make a mini greenhouse. I think it's awesome that we are being inspired to recycle and repurpose in such an amazing ways! All the individual sections are glued together and pieces cut with a craft knife to create the peaked sides. The design even allows for a cd case in the peak that resembles the fan you would find in a real greenhouse - how ingenious.

Frugal Newspaper Art Idea for Kids

Here’s a fun frugal craft idea that will teach your kids about recycling and creating a beautiful piece of art featuring your child’s precious handprint at the same time!

Materials: Cereal Box, Newspaper, Mod Podge, Paint

Grab those leftover newspapers and allow your child to rip or cut it into pieces.

Cover the empty cereal box in Mod Podge.

Lay the pieces of torn newspaper to completely cover the Mod Podge. Allow to dry.

Paint your child’s hand with paint and have them put their handprints on the box to create tree top.

Paint a bottom to your tree and allow your child to fingerpaint leaves.
The cereal box acts as like a thick canvas print.

Recycling Carton Wallet for School-Age

Recycle and reuse your juice or milk carton in a crafty way. This project takes about an hour and can be turned into a creative project or present.
Carton Wallet

Prepare the milk or juice carton, Rinse and dry the carton

Cut open the carton so it lies flat, as shown; put aside the cap for now. Tape the template on top of the carton so that the top circle lines up with the spout. Mark the outline of the template with a ballpoint pen. Using firm pressure, trace the lower circle and the dotted lines of the template so that they transfer to the carton. (This will score the lines for easier folding.) A ruler will help you mark the straight lines. Cut out the shape from the carton.

Use scissors to cut out the lower circle as marked. (Tip: To make cutting out the circle easier, first make an X with a craft knife.) Use a ruler and a butter knife to further score the fold lines.

Following the fold lines you marked, create an accordion fold on each side of the wallet.

Tightly squeeze the accordion folds. Fold the top flap down, pushing the spout through the hole. Screw on the cap to keep the flap in place.

Recycled Circuit Board Art

Electronic circuit boards are not biodegradable. If disposed through ordinary means, they'll end up in landfills and add to the burden on the environment. But if they're recycled, they can be separated into their reusable and non-reusable parts.

Recycle Water Bottles into Candle Holders

This is such a fun project for teens and adults as well– perfect for Spring and Easter! It’s also a great craft for kids too because it not only involves paint but recycling  water bottles too. It’s never to soon to teach children the value of recycling, is it?

The Facts
-U.S. plastic beverage bottle recycling rates are only at about 30%
-2.8 Billion plastic bottles ended up in California landfills in 2011
-Even though a package says it is “100% recycleABLE”, that does not mean it is made with recyclED plastic.  It just means it CAN BE recycled.  In fact, most containers are not made of recycled plastic.

Cut the top part of the bottle off. Wipe the outside of the plastic with rubbing alcohol and allow to dry.

Used glass paint Gloss Enamels by Americana, used both glitter and frost. The frost is nice but the glitter is really pretty. And sparkly.

To cover the neck, glued a strip of ribbon around it.

So simple. So sparkly.

Best on Center Table

Add a faux gilded easter egg here and there and you have a pretty spring centerpiece for your table or mantle.
